‘A New CEO and a New Way of Thinking…’
HSBC began using Vi International in the Spring of 2008 both for the personal development of their directors at HSBC Insurance Brokers Limited, and the building of the directors into a better performing team. The management style of the previous CEO of the business had been to treat each director as a self-contained silo interacting predominantly with the CEO. The new CEO wanted to change this and develop a TEAM.

Vi International conducted a number of offsite, team-building meetings to assist the team to develop and improve their performance over a 24 month period. In addition, each of the directors was allocated a coach, who has helped the individuals to identify and work on their own performance improvement plans, as well as their input into the team-building exercises. This is what the HSBC CEO had to say about his experience:
“The first team events were all about improved understanding of the other team members because they had all been thrown together, and improved tolerance of the other team members because they had completely different ways of working at it... I think they probably learnt far more from the 360 analysis than they did from the other ones but I think it was very intangible learnings because I think for a number of them they were almost shocked - I suppose by the feedback from everyone - this wasn’t what they expected.” CEO, HSBC Insurance
